The basic 5 Code Scheme is as follows:. What are the symptoms? P, p, p no matter the plugs or coil packs used. I now also have p Does anybody have a clue?

Others have had the thermostat housing replaced and the problem went away When you say the 'engine runs the same' - how is it running? What was the initial symptom when the problem first happened? Did this happen after any changes to the car? How many miles on the car? I already replace the spark plug and the coil but still the same code showing and the engine runs the same thing. Anybody can help me? Thank you!

P Bad O2 sensor? Bad connection at O2 sensor? Bad catalytic converter? Unfortunately, I can't determine if P it the upstream or downstream sensor. I recommend you try swapping the upstream and downstream sensor to see if you get a different code - they are both identical sensors. Your Login Failed. Your E-Mail and or password are incorrect. Article Date: Feb 01, Remember Me? Enlisted Member. Appreciate 0. Can you post a description of the fault? Pressure sensor is not difficult to replace. This is what a general website says about it. Also what ORielly's guy said Possible Solutions Replacing the exhaust back pressure usually takes care of the problem.

Ok, you are in the US and I assume you have all the emission parts intact and not modified. If otherwise, please do post. There are two possibilities here. One is yes, your sensor may be bad. Two, you have an exhaust system blockage. If so, then most likely your DPF is stuffed. Before you go about buying a new sensor and trying to replace it, you need to eliminate the possibility of option two, which is your exhaust system blockage.

You need to do some diagnostics first. You got this P code from somewhere, obviously. As a start, what would be good to do, is to see when was your last DPF regen. You can do that with any BMW specific diagnostic tools. If you do not have any may be someone local can assist you. DPF regens happen about every miles. If you know how to spot one, may be you have been monitoring them, or not. Also, would be good to pull any pending codes, with a BMW specific tools that is.

An increased exhaust back pressure may also trigger a pending or a full code for increased exhaust gas temperatures.

Basically, here, you need to eliminate the possibility of your exhaust being plugged. Thank for the starting place Yozh. Yes my system is stock. I do see the regens from time to time when looking at my miles to empty numbers suddenly to drop and come back but I don't always pay attention to that.

Will the BMWhat tool show me what you are mentioning? Thanks again. Thanks for your help! As stated, some problems with the DPF and whatever.

Check them to see if it's burned through. Bad news if the DPF is plugged; expensive. Thanks for the location of where to look for the sensor itself. I'll check it out weather permitting. I know that MPG to empty suddenly will go down and haven't been looking at that, also haven't driven too far lately. I'll be driving a mile trip on Monday will see if it's happening.I put in a thermostat yesterday, desperately trying to get the car to regen.

After the thermostat main onlyI went on a 30 min highway drive.

BMW Complete Diagnostic Fault Code List [E36, E46, E90 and more]

I pulled over, cleared all the pending codes from earlier and started again. Hoping that didnt damage the arm assembly. Thinking that was a culprit, I tested it with vacuum. Now it will actuate the valve at 15 in hg, and the valve returns when released. When I try to actuate it from the T-junction further up, it appears I have a small leak, not sure how to test the electric valve, going to replace both lines with new today and retest.

I saw lpcapitals thread posts where he had to trick the DDE into thinking the pressure was closer than it was, but I don't think mine is as severe since I didnt get any lights for DPF and dont have any glow issues. Any insight to what my biggest hurdle is? How I can make this regenerate?

My general service scanner can read most pids and can operate some actuators, but can't test SCR functions. Thanks Sorry for the crosspost, just registered here. Terms of Use. Hey Everyone, So, I found out what code means finally. But I don't know yet how to diagnose this. It almost seems like this whole emissions crap is ruining an otherwise perfect car. I already cleaned it once and it never fixed it. There was another code it threw as well but I forgot to write it down. The throttle valve actuator seems to be working for the most part as I inspected it while pressing the gas and watched it pivot to let more air in etc My concern here is the code.

If the heat builds up too much in the EGR cooler, it could crack etc So does anyone know what I should do to diagnose this problem? Also, I don't want to delete the EGR because after 8 years, I will need to get an emissions test and it will most likely fail. Thanks for any input, Andrew. Remove Advertisements. Hi, I've got the same error - cant find anything in Internet how to deal with it.

With older M57 ppl just replace EGR thermostat. But M57T2 doesn't have it. Or is it inside exhaust cooler? Or is it controlled by EGR valve? Can't find anything. If you find solution - please share your knowledge. This is set if the cooling effect of the EGR cooler is insufficient. There is a bypass flap and a downstream temp sensor used to monitor using measured EGR flow at idle with the engine temp 60 to C.

Either a bypass flap movement problem or sooted cooler. Originally Posted by ingenieur. Sorry for the delay in replying. I have a major problem with my wife's X5 35d.

4862 bmw fault code

I have been on the road for three weeks for work, and she calls me Sunday on the way to church with the kids. What she said was pulling out of the neighbourhood and went to accelerate, and she got the "Engine Malfunction Reduce Power" warning. I quickly did a forum search had her turn off the car open the door and then close the door and restart.

The warning went away, and I figured it was just one of those BMW glitches well she call me back 15 minutes later and the same thing. So when she got home, I had her pull my code reader and got her to hook it up, and it gave me the following codes p, p,p,p But she said the reader said there were 11 codes, but that was all it was showing.

Since I was not at home and she has never used a reader, I had here wait until Monday and then call AAA to tow it to the local shop that works on European cars, great place with great reviews and totally trust them BTW. They said they would be happy to take a look, and the local shop probably could not handle the work due to special tools.

This car is 2, miles out of the extended warranty and slightly overmiles. Does anyone have any experience with these issues any thoughts?

The shop said they would be willing to try and diagnose the problem and then decide if it is necessary to go to the dealer but I'm out of town still and not sure what to do here. I know if it goes to the dealer I'm going to pay big time even if that is not the issue at hand Never had any problems with the car drives great and there was no indication of anything before this.

Thanks in advance. Are all of those 'current' codes? So did they occur in the last few hundred miles? You could reset and drive for a while and see which come back, it may help narrow it down. This is a paid subscription service. I had many of those on my wihch I lemoned in I had multiple recallls.

IMO it is worth getting an independent read on recalls. The stealership is Barbara Streisanding without a documented Test Plan completion and evaluation. In NC you should have your choice of which dealership gets the work, call around to find a more sympathetic ear. Thank you for the reply! Those are current codes, they did a reset at the shop and test drove it the tech is going to call after lunch as five of the codes had check marks on the sheet and the owner wasn't sure why the tech had checked them off.

Maybe they did not come back but I will find out. My understanding is that they have the subscription access as they do a lot of BMW work and have some ex-dealer techs working there but I will specifically ask. I will have my wife pull the extended warranty but you are probably correct on that. It is a good idea to get the dates on the codes though just in case I can argue the issue. You are correct there. I live on the coast, and the two dealers are 65 and 95 miles away, and unfortunately, I have had a bad experience with both.Fix the error quickly and favourable with autoaid.
